Venus of Berekhat Ram
Man has been creating art since prehistoric times. It has been our steadfast means of expression and documentation of human history. The oldest examples date from 230 to 700,000 BC; the Bhimbetka and Daraki-Chattan cupolas discovered in Central India and the Venus of Berekhat Ram discovered on the Golan Heights between Syria and Israel.
In more recent years, it seems other species have taken up art exhibiting extraordinary talent. Horses seem to have a particular panache for painting most notably, Metro Meteor, whose art sales supported New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program. Romeo and Juliet, Teddy the Pony and Justin have also created impressive bodies of work. Talented yes but does the work of these equine artists stand up to that created by humans?
