You don’t have to love horse racing to love this story. The plot is straight from movies like Seabiscuit and National Velvet.
Jamaican UPS driver and part time horse trainer, Gaston Grant, 54, was given a free race horse, a big, bossy colt that no one else wanted. On April 8, 2017, Green Gratto won the Carter Handicap. The $400,000 purse put his earnings over the million mark. In the year since, his winnings have increased to $1,140,702 with 64 starts: 9 wins, 9 places and 8 shows.
The Kentucky Derby is less than 2 weeks away. From the field there will be horses that are favored and those that are given little chance. The thrill of any race is that every horse HAS a chance to win. Opportunity is what makes a story like Green Gratto’s touching, he was given that chance.
