Game on! The Super Bowl game is this coming Sunday, February 3rd. This year’s event is in Atlanta at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Most years I don’t pay much attention to the game, its football after all and I’ve got stalls to clean. But this year it’s in my hometown, so I’m a bit more tuned in. Well, tuned in to a degree. I had to Google to see which two teams were playing. BTW – Patriots v. Rams.
Most of my interest in the Super Bowl has been focused on the impact of 1 million visitors to our lovely town. Driving to the game? Brace yourself. On a quiet day it can take 2 hours to drive 25 miles. Flying in? Good news is you’ll make a lot of new friends at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport. We southerners love to chat up strangers standing in long TSA lines. You won’t soon forget the epic tale of Granny’s pet opossum. But travel impositions be damned. Atlanta loves to party and we’ve been planning this one for months.
Me? I plan to enjoy the Super Bowl from my couch. I confess that the game is never my focus, it’s the Super Bowl commercials, one in particular – the Budweiser commercial with its famous Clydesdale hitch. Sadly the last two years Budweiser did not feature the horses, a tradition since 1975. But this year THEY’RE BACK!

The average cost for a 30 second Super Bowl commercial is $50 million dollars. In my humble opinion, Budweiser spent that money well. This year’s clip is one of my all-time favorites. Quiet and powerful the spot is set to Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’. It features the Dalmatian mascot, galloping hitch and wind turbines. Yes, wind turbines. Budweiser uses renewable energy to power its breweries. The company is even supplying some of its clean electricity to Atlanta to help power Super Bowl week.

The time has come to take action and help build a better future for us all. That’s why wind has never felt better. Budweiser is now brewed with 100% renewable electricity from wind power,” states the company website.

Thanks Budweiser for returning our much beloved Clydesdales.
