For the second year in a row superstar WINX has been crowned Australia’s Horse of the Year. Her reign began 21 victories ago, most recently capped with Saturday’s victory in the Turnbull Stakes at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. Winx won the race handily by 6.5 lengths cheered by more than 20,000 fans (twice the number who attended last year’s meet).

“There is no training manual for a horse like Winx,” said trainer, Chris Waller. “In trails and track work, she just does what she needs to do.”

The six-year-old mare has won races in distances from 1300m (6 ½ furlongs) to 2200m (11 furlongs). Her winnings to date exceed $13.5 million. Winx will attempt her third successive win in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Melbourne, October 28.
